Book Addiction Tag

Hi Readers

I was tagged by Books on the Brain into this tag. Thanks so much Kelly!

I love these questions so lets get right into it!

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

I’d say a few days. Sometimes I need time to get over a book if it’s hit me emotionally!

How many books do you carry on your person at any one time?

Always at least one. You know, just in case.

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make room for more?

I always intend to pass on books I don’t plan to read or didn’t like to charity shops or relatives but I have a habit of hanging onto them instead.

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

Until my mum starts sighing.

How much time per day do you spend reading?

I don’t time it. I just read however much I can/want to.

When does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

Late afternoon and into the evening.

How many books do you own in total (including e-books)?

Somewhere between 200 and 300 I reckon.

Approximately how many times do you bring up books in conversation?

Rarely. People I know don’t tend to read the books I read.

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I’m pretty sure it’s still Order of the Phoenix although Anna Karenina might be a close second.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds?

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. There was a time when this book seemed almost impossible to find in the UK.

Game of Thrones Book Tag

book tag

Hi Readers

The final season of Game of Thrones is single-digit days away and, being a huge fan of the show, I am so excited (and scared) for it to begin…and end.

I thought, in honour of it being the final season I should do the Game of Thrones book tag. The questions for this are based on the Game of Thrones houses.

HOUSE LANNISTER: HEAR ME ROAR – Name a book that you originally loved, but upon a re-read realised that it wasn’t so great after all.

Honestly, every John Green book.

HOUSE STARK: WINTER IS COMING – Name your most anticipated book release

I’m so excited for Elizabeth Avecedo’s second novel. I only just found out about it but I am hyped!

HOUSE TARGARYEN: FIRE AND BLOOD – Name a book that you felt completely slayed with fantastic characters, plot, pacing, etc.

The last time a book slayed me like this was Normal People by Sally Rooney. Here’s hoping it makes the Womens Prize shortlist! Not long now!

HOUSE BARATHEON: OURS IS THE FURY – Name a book that ended with a cliffhanger ending that genuinely pissed you off.

Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling).

HOUSE MARTELL: UNBOWED. UNBENT. UNBROKEN. – Name a book, or book series, that’s been on your TBR since the dawn of time.

Too many to list here. One that I hope to get to soon though is The Chaos Walking trilogy.

HOUSE BOLTON: OUR BLADES ARE SHARP – Name the most graphic or disturbing book that you’ve ever read.

Misery by Stephen King. But, I mean, I expect nothing less from him.

HOUSE TYRELL: GROWING STRONG – Name a book, or book series, that gets better and better with every re-read.

Harry Potter (all of them) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

So those are all the questions! I won’t tag anyone because I have no clue who watched GoT or not.

Who’s excited for tomorrow (or Monday if you’re in the UK? I may do a ‘favourite theories’ post tomorrow. Right now I’m scared for all of my favourite characters. Who are you hoping makes it to the bitter end?

Thanks for reading,

Jess X

Book Tag: Anything But Books

book tag

Hi Readers

In today’s post you’re about to get to know me a little better. Normally I stick to just talking books, but this tag is for anything but.

Unlike most tags I do this one I was actually tagged in which is very exciting! Thanks to The Book Mermaid for tagging me!

1. Name a cartoon(s) that you love

I don’t really watch cartoons but I love animated movies. I just watched How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and absolutely balled my eyes out. It was so good.

2. What is your favourite song right now?

Right now I’m kind of obsessed with Here’s To Never Growing Up by Avril Lavigne. I know, it’s old, but it makes me feel like a teenager again.

3. What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

Watch Game of Thrones. Which is basically what I’m doing now when I’m not reading. And also, baking. Which I’ve also been doing a lot of recently.

4. What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Nothing I do is surprising to anyone. I’m literally the most predictable person on this planet.

5. What is your favourite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

Random but when I’m watching or reading something about a historical event I have to google as I’m watching it to know how accurate it is to the actual event. So I inadvertently become an expert on whatever the subject it.

6. What is something unusual you know how to do?

I know every single shortcut there is on Mario Kart.

7. Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can)

Just recently I made Mary Berry’s Cheese Muffins for Mothers Day. She loves cheese. Unfortunately they were devoured before I was able to get a photo.

8. What is your most recent personal project?

I decided to take part in Camp NaNoWriMo very last minute. I hope to write 30,000 words of my novel in the next month!

9. Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows)

TS7. (If you know what that means we can be best friends).

10. Give us something that’s your favourite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favourite food, but like your favourite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that

Every morning for Breakfast I love to have a bowl of Honey Nut Cornflakes whilst watching either Great British Bake Off or a Zoella vlog.

11. What is the first thing that pops in your head

Line of Duty. I’m currently writing this out half an hour before the first episode of season 5 begins and I’m so freaking excited for it.

Bookish 2 Truths and 1 Lie

book tag

Hi Readers!

I was tagged to do this by AllyWritesThings!

  • Create a post with your two bookish truths and one bookish lie – but be sure to keep it a secret so your readers can guess
  • Reveal the lie in a spoiler at the bottom of your post (you can use this HTML code:<Details><Summary>Reveal the Lie</Summary>PUT YOUR LIE IN HERE!</details>). Change the D’s and S’s to lower case.
  • Tag 8 friends to play along
  • Link back to the original post

One of these is a lie. Can you guess which one?

  1. I didn’t start reading for pleasure until I was 15.
  2. I frequently dog ear my books
  3. I prefer using my library over buying books.
Reveal the Lie

The first one’s a lie. I’ve loved reading since I can remember!

I’m going to tag Marta, Becks, Ashley, Darina and Ayunda!

Pretty Little Liars Book Tag

book tag

Hi Readers

I loved this TV show when I was a teenager and I’ve just started binge-watching it again and have become re-obsessed with it. It’s dramatic and shocking and was probably the first TV show I stanned.

1) We all know Hanna has the best style – who is one author who’s writing style you simple can’t get enough of?

J.K. Rowling. It’s so distinctive and her characters especially feel so real.

2) PLL Hiatus – a book/series it pains you to wait for?

I have two at the moment. The sequel to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and Priory of the Orange Tree.

3) You’ve stumbled into A’s lair but quickly realise you’re not alone. Which fictional character do you send an SOS text?

Dumbledore. So he can disparate me in and out.

4) Rosewood – A fictional place you would like to visit, despite it’s reputation?

Um, Hogwarts. Duh.

5) A has invited you to the masquerade ball! What lavish outfit from a book would you wear?

If A’s invited me probably something of Celaena Sardothian’s from Throne of Glass and hopefully it’s decked out with weapons.

6) Cece Drake: Name a totally epic plot twist.

Well, I won’t spoil you. But the ending of Red Queen shocked me. Twice.

7) It’s Halloween! You’re Aria and A has locked you in a crate. What power or weapon would you use from a book to help you break free?

Back to Red Queen but I’d definitely want to be Cal in this situation. I could burn a hole in the wood or something.

8) Wren: Who is a minor character whose story you would love to know more about?

Probably someone from HP honestly. I just want more of everybody. Maybe the Founders of Hogwarts.

I have no idea who likes PLL or not so I won’t be tagging anyone.

Halloween Creatures Book Tag

Book Tags Banner

This tag was created by Keep Reading Forward.

Hi Readers

Witches – A Magical Character

Obviously one of my favourite is Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Mummies – A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time

The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Because I think no matter what, every teenager will find a character in this they relate to.

Vampires – A Book That Sucked the Life Out of You

Harsh but Vanity Fair by William Thackery. Because it was boring me to death.

Werewolves – A Book Best Read in the Middle of the Night

Bird Box by Josh Malerman. I dare you.

Zombies – A Book That Made You Hungry For More

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I didn’t feel like their story was over and thankfully it’s not. We’re getting a sequel (hopefully) soon!

Ghosts – A Book That Still Haunts You

I’m interpreting this as a book I’ve read and didn’t like but still see it everywhere even though I don’t want to. So, for this I’ll say Eliza and Her Monsters.

Frankenstein – A Book That Shocked You

Big Little Lies. I’ve never gasped so loud whilst reading a book. Thank goodness I wasn’t in public.

Skeleton – A Book You Have A Bone To Pick With

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith. Loved it, but if the two main characters had just communicated they could have been so much happier.

The Devil – A Dark Evil Character

I mean, you can’t get more evil than Voldemort. People say Umbridge trumps him, but I just don’t think that’s possible.

Grim Reaper – A Character That Should Have Never Died

*Harry Potter Spoiler* – Sirius. I get why he had to. But I wish it didn’t have to be so.

Gargoyle – A Character That You Would Protect At All Cost

Lysandra from Throne of Glass. Which makes me even more scared for Kingdom of Ash (I’m going to start reading it Thursday!) (Do not spoil me!!)

Demon – A Book That Really Scared You

A book has never creeped me out more than Bird Box by Josh Malerman did.

Seeing as it’s Halloween today, I feel like it’s too late to tag anyone, so I won’t be tagging anyone.

Thanks for reading!

Totally Should’ve Book Tag

Book Tags Banner

Hi Readers

It’s been ages since I’ve done a book tag and this is one I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. This is the totally should’ve book tag created by EmmmaBooks

1. Totally should’ve gotten a sequel

This is hard because I actually love standalones and I always think their best left alone. But honestly I’d love a Pride and Prejudice sequel. I’d loved to have seen Lizzy and Mr Darcy’s married life.

2. Totally should’ve had a spin off series

I’m not the biggest fan of spin off series. However I will always wish J.K Rowling would write about the marauders. In books. Not a play. Not a movie.

3. An author who totally should write more books

Stephen Chbosky. Luckily he is! His second book is out late next year.

4. A character who totally should’ve ended up with someone else

I’ve always thought Celaena from Throne of Glass should’ve ended up with a certain prince. But I’m currently rereading it and I kind of see why she didn’t now. But I still think it would’ve been a better end game.

5. Totally should’ve ended differently

The Queen of the Tearling Trilogy. I know a lot of people like the ending because it’s different but it just made the series fall flat for me.

6. Totally should’ve had a movie franchise

Percy Jackson but done right CAN YOU IMAGINE THE THEME PARK RIDES?

7. Totally should’ve had a TV show

I think there is one in the works but Throne of Glass, Game of Thrones style.

8. Totally should’ve had only one point of view

And the Mountain Echoed by Khaled Housseini. I recently DNFed this because it started strongly with these two amazing characters I fell in love with, then focused on characters who were boring in comparison for the next 100 pages. I lost interest.

9. Totally should’ve had a cover change

I barely care about covers anymore but honestly the Neapolitan Series. Their covers could be BEAUTIFUL but instead they just have models that hardly look like how the characters are described.

10. Totally should’ve kept the original covers

The Anna and the French Kiss trilogy. I like the new covers don’t get me wrong but I bought the first two (in hardcover) and they look so pretty and I was so excited to have them all match and then they go and change the cover. Ugh.

11. Totally should’ve stopped at book one

I think this about a lot of series because I love standalone’s and second books almost always let me down. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder would’ve been a good standalone but mainly because the series went down hill after that for me. I’ll always recommend the first book, but not the other two.

I Tag…

Erin – A Red Heads Rambling

Kate – Bibliophile Book Club

Clarissa – Clarissa Reads It All
