Hi Readers

I haven’t done one of these in a while but I still have about a few books left to go through. This is the series where I go through my Goodreads Want to Read shelf. rifle through the books that have been on there for a few years and decide if I still want to read them or not.

  1. The Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk – Keep – I’m not sure if this book is my sort of thing but the amount of praise it has has made me want to at least try it.
  2. The Reader by Bernhard Shlink by Keep – I love a book set during the war.
  3. The Magicians by Lev Grossman – Delete  – This just has too many negative reviews from people I trust.
  4. Uprooted by Naomi Novik – Keep – Hopefully I can read this soon.
  5. I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh – Keep – I really want to read more thriller.
  6. Still House Lake by Rachel Caine – Keep – Again, more thrillers!
  7. A Line Made By Walking by Sara Baume – Keep – This sounds like a beautiful book. It’s about art and mental health and it’s set in Ireland.
  8. Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett – Keep – I’m not sure if I’ll like this but Eddie Redmayne is in the adaptation so I’d like to give it a go.
  9. Harry Potter – A History of Magic by J.K.Rowling – Keep – Since writing this list I’ve actually read this.
  10. Letters between 6 Sisters by The Mitford Sisters – Keep – These women had such interesting lives and knew some seriously interesting people.

Hi Readers

Here’s another round of going through and sorting out my Goodreads Want to Read shelf.

  1. We Have Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson – Keep – I’ll probably be saving this one for next Halloween.
  2. Halloween Party by Agatha Christie – Delete – I’ve not been a huge fan of what I’ve read by Christie so I don’t think I’ll be reading any more.
  3. History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund – Delete – I put this on my TBR because it was long listed for the Manbooker prize but honestly I’m just not interested in it.
  4. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders – Delete – I may change my mind on this but for now I don’t really have an interest in reading it.
  5. The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan – Keep – This is a thriller and sounds very intriguing.
  6. Something Wicked Comes This Way by Ray Bradbury – Delete – Now a huge fan of Bradburys writing.
  7. Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman – Keep – This is about to become a TV show with David Tennant so you can bet I’ll be reading this soon.
  8. The Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell – Keep – I feel like this will be a great biography, especially as it was written by someone who knew Charlotte.
  9. The Professor by Charlotte Bronte – Keep – I only have two Bronte books left to read, this is one of them.
  10. Misery by Stephen King – Keep – I’ve actually recently read this.

Down the TBR Hole #10

down the tbr hole

Hello Readers

This series is all about cleaning up those Goodreads shelves so that the only ones remaining are books you 100% want to get to. Here are the next 10!

  1. Mend the Living by Maylis De Kerangal – Keep – This book sounds beautiful and like nothing I’ve read before.
  2. Release by Patrick Ness – Keep – Patrick Ness’s books are hit and miss for me, but this one sounds like something I’d enjoy. I don’t know when I’ll get to it though.
  3. The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell – Delete – I feel like enjoying The Durrells, a fictionalisation of Lawrence’s family and there time living in Corfu, isn’t enough of a reason to read this book.
  4. Turtles All The Way Down by John Green – Delete – I just have zero interest in John Green’s books now.
  5. David Bowie Is… by Victoria Broackes – Keep – I really enjoy his music but I don’t really know much about David Bowie’s life, and this seems like a good biography.
  6. A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny – Delete – I didn’t enjoy Still Life, another book by this author, so I won’t be reading anything else by her.
  7. The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion – Keep – I will admit this doesn’t really sound like my type of thing, but some reviewers whose opinions I really trust just loved this book, so I’ll have to give it a go.
  8. About Alice by Calvin Trillin – Keep – This book just seems so touching.
  9. The Past by Tessa Hadley – Delete – Nothing about the synopsis for this book excites me.
  10. Between the World and Me by TabyNehisi – Keep – I actually hope to read this book this month.

Verdict:

Keep: 6
Delete: 4

Hi Readers

Time to go through some more books on my Want To Read and decide whether I actually want to read them or not. We’re about half way through now!

  1. The Once and Future King by T.H White – Keep – I don’t know when I’ll read this. But I love the King Arthur myths so it’ll be fun to read a retelling.

  2. Naive. Super by Erlend Loe – Keep – I put this on my TBR as Jen Campbell recommended this to fans of Perks of Being a Wallflower and that’s one of my favourite books.

  3. When God Was A Rabbit by Sarah Winman – Keep – Since making this list I’ve actually read this book.

  4. The Road by Cormac McCarthy – Keep – I was looking for some post-apocalyptic books and this was one of the highest rated ones on goodreads. I’ve never seen anyone blog or talk about it on booktube so I’m intrigued.

  5. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood – Keep – I’m a big fan of Atwood and this is high on my priority list.

  6. Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank – Delete – Another post-apocalyptic book. This one I’ve just lost interest in.

  7. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter – Keep – This is another one that since making this list I’ve actually read it!

  8. A Girl Is A Half Formed Thing by Eimear McBride – Keep – Two books on this list that were recommended by Jen Campbell.

  9. Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison – Keep – I own another Toni Morrison book but this seems to be her most popular work.

  10. Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman – Keep – Finishing up on another book I’ve now read.

Verdict:
Kept – 9
Deleted – 1

Thanks for reading!

Down the TBR Hole #8

Note: Created by Lost In A Story.

Hi Readers

This post is another ‘Down the TBR Hole’ where I sort through my Goodreads ‘Want to Read’ shelf.

Today’s ten books really highlight how long ago I actually sorted my books and wrote this list as a lot of them I have either read or have tried to read and actually DNFed. So, we’ll have to add a couple of extra categories for this one.

  1. Ask the Passengers by A.S. KingDNF – I’ve now tried two of A.S. King’s books and didn’t like either. Her books just aren’t for me.
  2. You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down by Alice WalkerKeep – I’ll probably read this the next time I want a good quick feminist read.
  3. A List of Cages by Robin RoeRead – Read this, reviewed this, and really like this.
  4. To the Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn IveyKeep – I’m hoping I get to this hopefully this upcoming Winter.
  5. Carry Me Life Water by Benjamin Alire SaenzDelete – I love his book Ari and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe but I hated his book ‘the Inexplicable Logic of my Life’ and I’m not a fan of magical realism. So I’ll give this one a pass.
  6. The Secrets of Eden by Brandon GoodeDelete – I’ve lost interest in this book and it doesn’t have the best reviews.
  7. Everything We Keep by Keey LonsdaleKeep – I keep meaning to read this book, but I just keep forgetting about it.
  8. War and Peace by Leo TolstoyKeep – I definitely want to read this book, it just has to be at a time when I have little else to do.
  9. A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man by James JoyceDNF – omg I hated this book. So much.
  10. Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri Keep – I’m not sure I’ll get to it this year like I’d planned but I will definitely read it at some point.

Verdict:

Kept: 5
Deleted: 2
Read: 1
DNF: 2

Down the TBR Hole #7

Note: Created by Lost In A Story.

Hi Readers!

Welcome to another edition of ‘Down the TBR hole’ where I visit my Goodreads ‘Want To Read’ shelf and give it a good sorting out and only leave books that I actually have an interest in reading.

  1. Because You Love To Hate Me by Booktubers and Authors – Delete – I feel sad that I never read this because I do love booktube and watch basically every booktuber that contributed to this book. But I’m just not interested in it.
  2. Look Who’s Back by Timur Vermes – Delete – I get the feeling I just wouldn’t appreciate the humour in this book.
  3. Highly Illogical Behaviour by John Corey Whaley – Keep – Sometimes I just need a good coming-of-age novel.
  4. Quiet – The Power of Introverts by Susan Cain – Keep – Very interested in reading this book. I’m very much an introvert and I’d like to be told that’s a good thing for once.
  5. The View from the Cheap Seats by Neil Gaiman – Keep – I’m not entirely sure what this is about, but I love the title.
  6. Still Life by Louise Penny – Keep – I go through phases where I just need a good detective book and these Inspector Gamache have a lot of praise (plus, the second in this series is a Christmas book!)
  7. What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang – Keep – This has mixed reviews, but it sounds so interesting.
  8. Winter Town by Stephen Emond – Delete – The covers cute but the story sounds meh.
  9. Girls Will Be Girls by Emer O’Toole – Keep – I really need to start reading these feminist books I have racked up.
  10. Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye – Keep – OMG I need to read this already!

Results:
Keep – 7
Delete – 3

Not many delete’s this time around but that just means more books for me to read. Yay!

Thanks for reading,

Down the TBR Hole #6

Note: Created by Lost In A Story.

Hi Readers

It’s time to cleanse some more books from my goodreads TBR. In this series of blog posts I go through 10 books on my Goodreads ‘Want To Read’ shelf, starting with the oldest and working my way down, until eventually all of the books on my to-read shelf are books I actually plan on getting to eventually.

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides – Keep – I have high hopes for this book but I have no immediate plans to read it.

Sapiens – A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari – Keep – This isn’t my usual sort of read but the amount of praise I’ve seen for this book has put it high on my radar.

The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery – Delete – Maybe one day I’ll read it to my children but I don’t think I’d read it for myself.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith – Keep – I don’t know when, especially seeing as I keep putting it off, but I will give her a go at some point.

The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood – Keep – I think Margaret Atwood has the potential of becoming a favourite author of mine, I’m basically interested in reading everything she’s written.

One Thousand and One Nights by Hanan AlbyShaykh – Delete – I think I wanted to read this because of The Wrath and the Dawn but I’m not so sure I want to now.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo – Keep – I actually plan on reading this soon, hopefully before the new BBC adaption airs.

The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes – Delete – Just not interested anymore.

The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig – Delete – I’ve actually given this a go before and it just wasn’t for me.

My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier – Delete – I’m not a big fan of psychological thrillers anymore.

Kept: 5
Deleted: 5
