The Final Season of Game of Thrones: What I Liked and What I Hated.

film & tv

**Spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones ahead.

Hi Readers

After much anticipation and almost a two year wait we finally saw a story some of us have been following for ten years now come to a close. It’s an end of an era and it’s safe to say I’m very emotional about saying goodbye to these characters I’ve come to love and love to hate.

I, along with I think most people, have mixed feelings about the last six episodes of Game of Thrones. I can’t pin point what it is. Is is the writing? The pacing? Could it have done with more episodes? More time?

Nevertheless whilst there are some things I wish had turned out differently (or been told better), there were some moments that I loved and I’m going to be talking about both today.

Again, warning! There will be SPOILERS for the 8th season of Game of Thrones.

What I Liked…

The Cinematography. The dragons, that scene in the final episode where Dany’s given wings. Beautiful. Iconic.

The Music. Especially during the Battle of Winterfell.

Arya and Gendry. I liked seeing a different side to Arya after seeing her being so cold and emotionless for so long.

The conclusion. To me,, it’s the outcome that does make the most sense. Sansa the Queen of the North, Jon at the wall and Arya travelling the world. I feel like it just fits each character.

‘Uncle please sit.’

The memes. I love going on twitter after each episode and seeing people rip into it in the most creative ways. They make me giggle.

What I Didn’t Like So Much…

There’s a lot of ‘what was the effing point?’ What was the point of Jon being a Targaryon? Arya training for the ability to change her face if she doesn’t even use it? The promise of the Prince or Princess? There’s a lot. Here a thread on twitter which lists all of them >> twitter.

That Jon didn’t get to kill the Night King. I really feel like it was his destiny to do that.

That Arya didn’t get to kill Cersei. I feel like that was her destiny.

The fact that if Cersei and Jamie had moved two steps they would have lived. lol.

The first, second and forth episodes. They were snooze fests with some of the worst dialogue in the shows history.

They got Gendry’s name wrong. Why did no one realise this?

Tyrion. He became so pointless and didn’t have any good dialogue until the final episode.

The ending, ending. Where was Jon and the Freefolk even going? Surely there’s nothing beyond the wall now, right?

Missandei dying. I know it was to push Dany’s ‘mad queen’ arc but Missandei had an arc of her own to be fulfilled and that had nothing to do with Dany.

The Dothraki multiplying. Did none of them die in the battle of Winterfell?

The white horse. Add that to the list of ‘what was the effing point?’

Bran being named king. I kind of see why he’s a good choice but his power had little to no use at all in the end and Tyrion’s explanation of it was bull. Who has a better story than Bran? Umm, everyone! They didn’t show him for a whole season because his plot was so boring!

What did you think of the final season of Game of Thrones? Do you wish it had played out differently?

Hi Readers

I only really got into the Marvel movies recently and I’ve finally finished all of them and it’s safe to say I’m very emotional right now. There were some good ones and some not so good ones.

I’m going to keep this simple and rank the marvel movies from ‘best’ (top) to ‘worst but still really enjoyed tbh’ (bottom).

Captain America: Civil War
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Black Panther
Avengers Assemble
Thor: Ragnarok
Iron Man
Avengers: Infinity War
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Avengers: Endgame
Iron Man 3

Captain America: The First Avenger
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Captain Marvel
Iron Man 2
Doctor Strange
Thor: The Dark World
The Incredible Hulk

What do you think of the MCU? Does my list look anything like yours?

Finally Watched FB: The Crimes of Grindelwald…that really was a mess, huh?

film & tv

*Spoiler ahead

Hi Readers

So Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been out for quite a while now but I’ve only now gotten around to watching it and when I finished all I could think was, ‘wtf was that?’

I’ve now put that into more coherent thoughts and have worked out all the issues I have with this film. There’s quite a lot. Here they are…

  • I did really like the opening sequence. It was probably the only point in the whole movie where I was engaged. But then I thought about it and realised it felt very familiar. It’s basically Barty Crouch Jr 2.0.
  • The amount of Polyjuice potion use in this film is irksome as well.
  • We meet Leta and she and Newt had a conversation… that I didn’t hear a word of because I was too distracted by the bizarre camera angles, which were uncomfortably close.
  • Jacobs bakery, something that meant the world to him in the first movie, doesn’t even get mentioned here. Also the fact that there is no point to him. Whatsoever.
  • Queenie enchanted Jacob so he would do what she wanted… and then she’s the one who’s upset? And Jacobs just completely alright with having his free will taken away from him?
  • McGonagal. Something I think we’re all a bit confused about. Why is she here and why is she dressed as Mary Poppins?
  • The melodrama. It’s honestly eye-roll worthy. Especially that bizarre scene where Queenie’s having a screaming melt-down in the middle of Paris.
  • Why are wizards using muggle ships as transport? Did portkeys not exist in the early 1900’s?
  • Queenie’s whole character arc. It makes no sense that she would betray her sister and turn evil. Or why she thinks Grindelwald’s ideology would suite her and Jacob.

I’ve probably missed a bunch because this movie is so messy. None of the characters were memorable and the amount of references to Harry Potter ended up sounding desperate. I’m sad but not surprised. I hope J.K. Rowling gets some help writing the next movie because I think they do have potential.

End of Year Movie Releases I Want To Watch

Hi Readers

It’s come to that time of year again where there are so many exciting movies coming out in theatres and there are so many exciting ones I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. Here are the movies at the top of my list:

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – This is a new take on the story we all know and love. This film looks so beautiful, it will certainly be a treat for the eyes.

Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald – As controversial as this movie has been so far, I can’t help but admit I am still quite excited for it.

Widows – I just love Viola Davis and women coming together to kick as is a must see movie in my book.

Mary Queen of ScotsGreat cast and I love this period of history.

Bohemian Rhapsody – I’ve never actually been a huge fan of Queen but this biopic of their story looks incredible.

Mary Poppins Returns – I’ve been excited for this movie ever since Lin-Manuel Miranda was announced for the cast. Also I’m so glad this is a sequel and not a remake.

Wreck It Ralph: Ralph Breaks the Internet – If that Princess scene hasn’t got you hyped for this movie then I don’t know what will.

The Hate U Give – Even though I only gave the book 3 stars I still really want to see this movie. I’ll have to bring tissues though cause it’s going to be an emotional one.

What upcoming movies are you looking forward to seeing?

Scary Movies Perfect For Halloween Movie Nights

halloween recs banner

Hi Readers

One of the best things about Halloween is evenings curled up in a blanket with a scary movie and, if you’re like me, clutching a pillow for comfort.

Here are some movies that would make for great Halloween watching!

Split – A man with severe split personality disorder kidnaps three girls. James Mcavoy is creepy af in this.

Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane – If you’re looking for some a really tense sci/fi movie I’d give these two a try. The first is a ‘found footage’ film following a group of friends during an alien invasion in New York. The second is another kidnapping film, or is it?

Zombieland – I found this to be more comedy than horror, but I don’t really find Zombies scary.

The Descent – This follows a group of adventure seeking friends who go cave diving. They take a wrong turn and end up in an unexplored part of the caves. And their not the only ones down there. This movie gave me sweaty palms it was that tense.

Coco – This movie was inspired by the Mexican tradition ‘Day of the Dead.’ It follows a boy who loves music his family has banned it and in his attempt to follow his dream finds himself in the ‘Land of the Dead.’

Halloween Town – I have a soft spot for this Disney Channel Original movie as I grew up watching Marnie and her witchy adventures.

Hocus Pocus – You mustn’t go Halloween day without watching this absolute Halloween classic.

What’s your must-watch movies for Halloween?
